Christmas comings and goings

Like for most people, this is a busy time of the year. Visiting family and friends, I haven’t found a lot of time to hop on the computer. That said, I haven’t been idle. I remember just a few years ago when winter break meant playing video games most of the time and relaxing non-stop. Now it’s just a bunch of driving around, visiting with this group of people for a day or so, and then on to the next group.

Friday night was really enjoyable though. I drove down to Detroit and got together with some of my closest friends. The Matts, Andy (home from Texas!), Kim, Ashley and I all went to Union Street for a couple rounds and some catching up, and then went into the city and walked around for a while. I have to say, I’ve been struck by all the improvements being made to get the city in some amount of shape for the superbowl. New facades on buildings, better lighting, new stores, new hotels, etc. Felt pretty nice. In fact, down by Campus Martius there were a bunch of people out ice skating, even at 11:00 at night. We took a stroll over to the Renaissance Center and walked around by the river for a while, before heading in doors and taking the connecting skyway back closer toward our car.

Detroit may yet come back to be a pretty cool place.
